January 18, 2014

We’ve had a few cold and quiet months here at the Marina. The “polar vortex” that hit in November caused the lake to freeze overnight. Typically the lake doesn’t freeze until late January so, as you can imagine, we were not prepared. This sent me into a frenzy of investigating the labyrinth of aeration hoses under the water. We quickly developed a system and managed to melt the ice in a reasonable fast manner as to not do any damage to the docks. Since then we have been working on painting and re-carpeting the racks on the beach, clearing and cleaning dock boxes, debris removal from the flood, fixing anchors, and the general cleaning an fixing that comes along with being a Marina. Our friends, the geese, have come back in drones. There are many other ducks and bird species to observe. We are still waiting for the bald eagles to show up, but I don’t think its cold enough for them yet. I suspect they’ll be back in about a month. Other than that we are just trying to stay warm. We will be very excited to see the weather start to warm again. The anticipation of a new year is growing and we will be ready for it. We have tried to structure and simplify things to make Cherry Creek Marina life better for all our patrons. Looking forward to seeing all of you this year hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.
